Ned Tozun is the co-founder and CEO of d.light. Since the company's founding in 2007, Ned has played a key role in developing the company's mission and strategic plan, securing private investment from multinational venture capital and social impact funds, designing award-winning products, and establishing four international offices and worldwide distribution. Ned has been recognized by BusinessWeek, Forbes, The Guardian, Social Venture Network, the Asia Society, and the World Economic Forum for his innovative leadership. He and d.light co-founder Sam Goldman were also named Social Entrepreneurs of the Year in 2014 by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, and among Business Insider’s top 100 business visionaries creating value for the world in 2016.
Prior to d.light, Ned founded multiple startups in the San Francisco Bay Area and developed several products that attained global distribution. He has an MBA and bachelor degrees in Computer Science and Earth Systems from Stanford University.
Sam is the co-founder and Chief Product Officer of d.light. Sam has played a key role in designing d.light’s user-centric products for high quality and global performance standards that meet the needs of people living and doing business without access to a reliable electrical grid. Sam has been selected as an Ashoka Fellow, World Economic Forum Young Global Leader, a Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur of the Year, and a Business Insider top 100 business visionary creating value for the world. He was awarded the 2014 Charles Bronfman Prize and 2011 Sargent Shriver Award for Distinguished Humanitarian Assistance by the National Peace Corps Association, and his leadership has been recognized by the African Leadership Network, BusinessWeek, Forbes, The Guardian, and Social Venture Network.
Sam grew up in India, Pakistan, Peru, Mauritania, and Africa, and spent four years in Benin as a Peace Corps volunteer. He has an MBA from Stanford University and undergraduate degrees in biology and environmental studies from the University of Victoria, Canada.
As the CFO of d.light, Kamal brings more than 17 years of finance experience with multinational corporations based in India and the U.S. He leads the company's business planning and analysis across the globe, including corporate strategy, fundraising, and reporting. Previously he served as CFO of K12 Techno Services, one of the leading education companies in India. For about a decade, he worked with the IT services subsidiary of Indian multinational corporation Larsen & Toubro in India and the U.S. Kamal is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and is also a graduate of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Jacob Okoth is the Managing Director of Africa of d.light. He has more than 15 years of experience in senior operational roles across East Africa and in Europe. Jacob has worked in the sectors of insurance, fast-moving consumer goods, and telecommunications, specializing in sales and distribution, general management, marketing, customer experience, route-to-market, strategic planning, and leadership. Prior to joining d.light, Jacob was the Head of Sales and Marketing for a major telecom provider in Uganda. Jacob holds a bachelor of science degree from Egerton University in Kenya and is also certified in leadership and advanced management from the London School of Business.
